Work and Exercise Do Mix Well - A King County Success Story

to a weight training video during break time.

In 2004, Kirtsi Cooper-Goodwin and Cindy Nelson, from the King County Prosecutor's Office, started to exercise together during their lunch hour. They began by walking and doing exercises from magazine articles. Soon the dynamic duo grew to four enthusiastic individuals when Teresa Potter and Lidia Patras joined, and exercise videos were purchased and checked out of the library just to add a little spice to the routine. In 2005 Roni Mashita and Liah Travis became part of the group. They say variety is the spice of life and so it is with exercise. We now have quite a collection of videos including kickboxing, aerobics, weight training, salsa aerobics, yoga, and pilates. We exercise in a large conference room. If that room is already in use, we split into shifts to make use of smaller rooms. Over the last two years members have come and gone, but the core group is still going strong. The real key to our success is that we motivate one another. If someone is having a lazy day, the others will encourage her to work out anyway. We also discuss our eating habits, we share low fat recipes, and ideas on foods and eating in moderation. Another plus is that we don't have to struggle to make time for exercise after work, as time is a big obstacle for most people. Collectively we have lost close to 60 lbs. We feel better - we look positively smashing (if we do say so ourselves) - and we are proud of what we have accomplished.
