That's right - you can still shop for local, healthy foods at your neighborhood Farmers Market! The Broadway market is open through December 20th; and the University District & West Seattle markets are open year-round.
November 1, 2009, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. (Duwamish Cohousing Common House) West Seattle Urban Crop Circle This monthly gathering gives food gardeners a chance to share experiences, ask and answer questions, and create community. Presenting this month is Kimberly Leeper of Mariposa Naturescapes, who will be discussing using native and edible plants for landscaping.

Here’s your chance to learn quick and healthy recipes, time-saving tips, and dinner planning ideas. You’ll see how easy it is to make delicious meals that satisfy both adults and little ones. Menu includes Zesty Mini Black Bean Burgers, Sweet Potato Fries, Sweet-and-Sour Tofu, Creamy Vegetable Tomato Sauce on Spaghetti Squash, and Banana Ice Cream. Vegetarian.

If you are interested in improving the quality of soil in your yard and garden, attend this hands-on workshop offered by WSU extension. You’ll learn quick and easy ways to turn yard trimmings and kitchen scraps into rich soil amendments.

Thrifty Kitchen: Community Cooking, Bring your Kids
Join other parents and learn to prepare and take home delicious meals that are nutritious for you and your children. You’ll learn new recipes, make new friends, and save money by cooking at home. Children may accompany parents and hang out in an activity room located next to the kitchen.

Locavore’s Holiday Table
Gathering around the dinner table during the holidays is often the highlight of the season. This class will demystify the idea of eating locally and show you how to put an easy, elegant twist on a classic holiday menu. You’ll enjoy the bounty of Washington-grown foods including Sage-roasted Chicken with Apples and Onions; Farro Cornbread Stuffing; Butternut Squash with Pumpkin Seed Pesto; and Caramelized Almond Pears for dessert.

We'll go over the best of the no-fail classics, as well as some party host know how.
