Move More: March into action!

The Centers for Disease Control recommends 150 minutes a week of moderate-level physical activity and 2 days a week of muscle-strengthening exercises.

Walk

Adventures with a Naturalist – March 19th at 10 a.m. in Discovery Park.  Participate in a naturalist program and short walk for people ages 50 and older.  This month’s walk focuses on Signs of Spring.  Call 206-386-4236 or visit www.seattle.gov/parks for info.

Apartment Building tour – March 15th at 10 a.m. from the Seattle Asian Art Museum.  Join this walking tour to visit apartment buildings built 1900-1939 in the Volunteer Park neighborhood.  $10 - $20.  Visit www.historicseattle.org or call 206-622-6952 for details. 

Arboretum Walks - March 1st and 15th from the Graham Visitors Center at the Washington Park Arboretum.  This free, guided walk focuses on seasonal plants, native plants and local ecology.  Call 206-543-8800.

Bellevue Birding – March 7th at 9 a.m.  Walk through Lewis Creek Park with a naturalist from the Eastside Audubon Center to learn to identify local birds.  Dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear.  Free.  Call 425-452-4195 for info.  

Walking with Wildlife – Every Sunday from 2-3 p.m. Join the rangers for a walk through stunning Lewis Creek Park. Learn what you should and should not do when you encounter wildlife in the parks. Hike

Issaquah Alps Trail Club – March 8th, 15th, 27th and 29th.  Length and difficulty of hikes vary.  Some are dog-friendly.  All hikes meet at 9:30 a.m.  Come prepared with shoes, food, water, raingear and a daypack.  Contact www.issaquahalps.org for more info.

Try Something New

Biking – If want to try to get back on your bike, this is the ride for you.  March 7th at 2 p.m. you can join other new and reluctant riders for an easy round trip ride, complete with snack stop.  Rides start at the Wallingford Playfield and are hosted by Spokespeople.  Come 15 minutes early if you want some quick bike advice, minor adjustments or to buy a helmet for $10. www.spokespeople.us or 206-547-9569.
