CSAs are a very simple agreement between you and a local farmer. Is there a CSA in your future?

Local food for local people

If you have thought about adding more locally grown food into your diet but farmers markets don’t fit into your schedule, then a CSA may be just what you need.

Community-Supported Agriculture, or CSA, refers to a model of farming in which farmers sell the harvest directly to people in the local community. It was adopted in America from Japanese and European models, largely as a response to the dwindling number of small farms. CSA represents a shared commitment—shareholders commit to the farm for the season, providing farmers with a secure customer base, and farmers commit to doing their utmost to provide their shareholders with an ample supply of high quality, nutritious food.

CSAs are a very simple agreement between you and a local farmer. You pay an upfront "subscription fee" directly to the farmer and each week during the growing season, the farmer packs a "farmers-market-in-a-box" just for you (usually mid-June to late-October). The money goes directly to the farmer and the food goes directly to you.

Every farm’s CSA program is slightly different. Visit the Puget Sound Fresh CSA website for information that can help you find the program that fits your family and lifestyle best.
