King County Walks Week 2011 Hosted Walks from the Chinook building April 4th - King County Walks Week Kick-OffAbout 35 employees walked with King County Council Members Joe McDermott and Kathy Lambert, Chair and Co-Chair of the Board of Health. This was also the start of Public Health Week featuring a safety message. Our walk route was 1.2 miles through Pioneer Square. Download the map. April 5th - Chinook Healthy Building CommitteeFifteen employees joined members of the Chinook Healthy Building Committee for a walk to Qwest Field, up the stairs, and past Waterfall Park. It was 1.2 miles round trip. View the route on Google Maps. You'll have to hum the Rocky theme song to yourself for the full effect. About 150 employees from King County and the City of Seattle met up at City Hall for a pre-walk rally. King 5's Rich Marriott, King County Executive Dow Constantine, Seattle City Mayor Mike McGinn and Board of Health Chair Joe McDermott congratulated employees for investing in their health, celebrated local and regional successes and reinforced the importance of healthy choices to prevent heart disease and other illnesses. This was Start! Walking Day, the American Heart Association's annual promotion to encourage adults to get out and walk. Start! Walking Day is a great time to make a pledge to be physically active every day. April 7th - Prosecuting Attorney's Office
King County Prosecuting Attorney, Dan Satterberg, and staff led 35 employees through downtown to Harbor Steps, answering questions about the important work of the PAO along the way. After stopping for a group photo at Harbor Steps and enjoying the cherry blossoms, Dan challenged Prosecuting Attorney Cammy Hendrix to a race up the stairs. We're not telling who won..... April 8th - King County Assessor's Office and King County Parks, Your Big BackyardKing County Assessor Lloyd Hara and Kevin Brown, Director of the Parks and Recreation Division of the Department of Natural Resources led a walk for over 20 employees along the waterfront. King County Assessor Hara shared information about property values and recent sales along the route. Parks staff promoted the Big Backyard 5K, a great challenge to start the running/walking season. Both agencies made information on their services available in the lobby. Download the route. Every employee who encourages someone else to take a break and Move More is a hero.
