King County Walks Week 2010 - Hosted Walks from the Chinook buildingAll walks meet in the Chinook building lobby and leave at noon. You do not need to sign up to join one of these walks - just show up. But if you want to receive a free tote bag, you must register as a King County Walks Week participant. April 5th - This is Public HealthApril 5th was the start of Public Health Week. More than 50 employees joined Dr. David Fleming, Health Officer and Director of Public Health - Seattle & King County for a walk through the International District. Employees leading the crowd carried a "This is Public Health" banner and many employees wore stickers promoting public health. Watch a video of the walk on YouTube. About 40 employees followed staff from the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office along the downtown waterfront. Some prosecutors told stories of crime scenes along the way. Download the route map (click on Waterfront). Regional Prosecuting Attorney Office staff also walked on the 6th.  April 7th - American Heart Association Start! Walking DayExecutive Constantine proclaimed April 7, 2010 Start! Walking Day. Fred Jarrett and staff from the Executive’s Office led more than 30 employees through the streets of downtown Seattle, meeting up with employees from the City of Seattle. Start! Walking Day is the American Heart Association's annual promotion to encourage adults to get out and walk. Events including lunchtime walks were held across the nation. Start! Walking Day is a great time for adults to make the pledge to be physically active. Download the route map here. April 8th - Department of Community and Human Services
Cliff Floberg with the Developmental Disabilities Division in DCHS lead more than 25 employees through historic Pioneer Square. Even snow furries didn't keep this walking group inside! Download the route map here (click on Pioneer Square). April 9th – Health Hero Mari Conrad Mari Conrad leads kickboxing classes for employees in the Chinook Building Activity Center 2 times a week. Fridays are one of her few days off. She led 10 power-walkers on a fast paced jaunt down 5th Avenue to Qwest Field. Some employees broke off from the group to climb the stairs outside Qwest Stadium. Every employee who encourages someone else to take a break and Move More is a hero. Thank you for grabbing your co-workers and heading outside. Keep up the good movement.
