King County Walks 2009 - Hosted Walks from the Chinook buildingAll walks meet in the Chinook building lobby and leave at noon. You do not need to sign up to join one of these walks - just show up. But if you want to receive a free calendar, you must register as a King County Walks participant. April 6th - This is Public HealthApril 6th is the start of Public Health Week. Today's walk will be led by Julia Patterson, King County Council member and chair of the King County Board of Health and Dr. David Fleming, Health Officer and Director of Public Health - Seattle & King County. The walk will meander through the International District and return to the Chinook building. Walkers will wear stickers announcing "This is Public Health" as part of a statewide campaign to recognize public health programs. Preview the walk route and download your own map here. April 7th - Health MattersJoin your Health Matters team for a walk to the Frye Museum - WARNING - this walk has hills. But it's only one mile round trip and you'll feel stronger after. Come tell us your health stories, meet the people behind the e-newsletter and maybe hear a healthy joke or two. View the route map here. April 8th - American Heart Association Start! Walking DayCelebrate Start! Walking Day with Kurt Triplett, King County Executive Chief of Staff. This walk will head north on 4th Avenue and meet up with other company walkers en-route to a rally at Pike and 1st. Route maps will be distributed onsite. Start! Walking Day is the American Heart Association's annual promotion to encourage adults to get out and walk. Events including lunchtime rallies are held across the nation. Start! Walking Day is a great time for adults to make the pledge to be physically active. Kurt Triplett has been the Chief of Staff for King County Executive Ron Sims since 2003. Kurt graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Public Policy and has his MPA from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. Kurt says that "Staying healthy is one of the keys to a happy life. Healthy employees serve the public better and enjoy a greater quality of life at home. Getting healthy is an investment in yourself, your community and those who care about you."
