Worker Retraining
Washington's community and technical colleges, as well as licensed private schools, receive Worker Retraining funding to improve programs that prepare people for work.
Worker Retraining is designed to help you acquire the skills and training needed for today’s jobs. The program is a partnership between community and technical colleges and the state Employment Security Department to provide job training to eligible members of Washington’s workforce.
The Worker Retraining program provides job-related training and job development services if you meet one of the following criteria:
- You have been laid off, received a layoff notice, or face an imminent layoff
- You currently receive, or are eligible to receive unemployment benefits
- You have exhausted unemployment benefits within the last 2 years
- You are a displaced homemaker
- You were self-employed but are now unemployed
- You are employed, but vulnerable to dislocation
All Community College campuses offer Worker Retraining programs to provide retraining opportunities for unemployed and dislocated workers in the state of Washington. A “dislocated worker” is defined as an individual unlikely to return to employment in the individual’s principal occupation or previous industry because of diminishing demand for his or her skills, occupation, or industry.
The Program may pay for tuition, books, fees, tutoring, and provide academic and career counseling.
