King County's Employee Assistance Program

Content of this page are specific to employees affected by layoff, rescheduled shifts, shortened work hours, and mandatory unpaid leave.

King County recognizes that these are very difficult times for all of us and especially so for those who are being affected by lay-offs, rescheduled shifts, shortened work hours, and mandatory unpaid leave.

To support our employees (and their dependents) King County offers two resources that can help.

King County Employee Assistance Program

  • Primary function of EAP is to assist with job-related problems or anything affecting job performance (does not assist with job training or placement or career counseling)
  • Available to all active employees of King County
  • Can be used by all employees, supervisors and managers regardless of job classification
  • Staffed by professional counselors/workplace consultants
  • Can usually be used on County time (open M-F 8:00 – 5:00 or as arranged)
  • No cost to use, length of utilization determined by employee and EAP (and management, if involved)
  • Confidential (with rare exceptions that will be explained before your first session)
  • Call 684-2103 or 263-4572 to arrange an appointment; offices located in downtown Seattle

King County Making Life Easier Program

  • Primary function is to assist clients with personal problems that are not affecting work performance (does not assist with job training or placement or career counseling)
  • Must be benefit eligible and actively employed by King County or, where any employee has been laid off or an dies, it can be used by the employee and/or dependent family members for up to 60 days following the end of the month in which County-paid benefit coverage ends (e.g., if benefit eligibility ends 12/31/08 the program can be used through the end of February, 2009).
  • Staffed by professional counselors
  • May be able to be used during work time if approved by supervisor (but is typically coded the same as a medical appointment – check with your supervisor) or it can be used during non-work hours; hours vary – call number below for more information
  • May have up to 8 no-cost counseling sessions per issue per year
  • Confidential (with rare exceptions that will be explained before your first session)
  • Call 1-888-874-7290 to arrange an appointment; offices located throughout and beyond the tri-county area

Remember, the sooner you seek help, the greater your chances are to make things better. If you have questions or wish to schedule an appointment, we may be reached at 684-2103 or 263-4572. Our offices located in downtown Seattle.

Thank you, The Employee Assistance Program.
