Provisional ballots

A provisional ballot is usually cast by a voter whose name does not appear in the poll book or did not provide proper ID at the polls. Provisional ballots are counted after election officials verify the voter is eligible to cast a ballot. This process takes between seven to 14 days to complete. Once verified, the ballot is added to the official count.

Information about the status of a provisional ballots will be available about three days after an election until the election is certified. Certification occurs 15 days after a primary or special election and 21 days after the general election. For more information, call 206-296-VOTE (8683) or e-mail voter.services@kingcounty.gov.
