All candidates for King County elective office, and nominees for appointment to any county elective office (except for judicial candidates), must file a statement of financial and other interests with the Board of Ethics within two weeks of becoming a candidate or nominee. The filer may file a copy of the PDC’s F-1 form in lieu of the county’s statement of financial and other interests if the F-1 form contains an original signature of the person filing the report. Contribution Limits for County Offices
All persons and organizations, including political committees, are prohibited from making contributions during the election cycle totaling more than $1,800 in the aggregate to any candidate for Executive, Assessor, Sheriff, Director of Elections or County Council.
Going Over the Limit for County Offices
The campaign coordinator in the Elections Department notifies the campaign treasurer by telephone of the overage. Usually when there is an overage, it is an error. Usually the overages are small amounts (i.e. $100). Most of the time, the treasurer will issue a refund to the contributor and report the correction on a C4. If a campaign fails to comply with the limits after they are notified, King County Elections will send them a certified letter requesting compliance. If they still don’t comply, they will be referred to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Adjustment of campaign limits
