May 17, 2012 Candidate filing week ends Friday, May 18
Tomorrow is the last day that candidates planning to run for office in the August 7 primary election or the November 6 general election may file for office. Candidates who filed and have decided to withdraw must do so by Monday, May 21 at 4:30 p.m.
“This year there are 115 open elected offices for which candidates may file,” said Sherril Huff, Director of Elections. “This being a presidential year election, we are anticipating extremely high voter turnouts.”
A list of candidates who have filed for office and their ballot order, as determined by a random drawing, will be posted on the King County Elections web site on Friday, May 18 at 6 p.m.
Candidates have three ways to file for office:
- Online until 4 p.m., Friday, May 18. Candidates may file online 24 hours/day.
- In-person from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, through Friday, May 18. Candidates who choose to file in-person use designated computers at the King County Elections Department headquarters, 919 SW Grady Way, Renton.
- By mail until May 18. Filings made by mail must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on May 18, regardless of postmark.
An updated list of candidate filings will be posted on the Elections website at noon and by 6 p.m. each day until the filing week ends.
A complete list of offices subject to election, along with additional information on candidate filing and a manual for candidates, is available on the Elections website, http://kingcounty.gov/elections/candidates
