Nov. 29, 2011 2011 General Election Results Certified Four races require mandatory recountsKing County Elections this morning certified the results of the 2011 General Election. Voters returned more than 580,000 ballots for a final turnout of 53.6* percent, slightly exceeding the initial projection. Final results are posted on the department’s website. “Once again, I am pleased to report that the election was certified today with all ballots accounted for,” noted Sherril Huff, Director of Elections. “Our work on this election continues with recounts in four races that ended close enough to trigger a mandatory recount requirement according to state law,” she added. One contest requires a machine recount and three require a manual recount. Machine recount - City of Des Moines, Council Position 6: 31 votes (0.4619%) separate the candidates Rebecca King and Bob Sheckler.
Hand recounts - City of Bellevue, Council Position 1: 51 votes (0.1676%) separate the candidates Aaron Laing and John Stokes.
- Enumclaw School District, Director District 4: 9 votes (0.1430%) separate the candidates Dan L. Peterson and Tina McGann.
- Public Hospital District 4, Commissioner Position 3: 6 votes (0.0651%) separate the Gene Pollard and Karyn Denton.
Elections will start the recounts on Dec. 2** and will post results as they become available. Certification of all recounts is scheduled for Dec. 16 at 1:30 p.m. Visit the Elections website for the recount schedule. Elections has conducted three mandatory machine recounts and one requested manual recount since the county switched to all vote by mail elections in 2009. No election outcomes changed as a result of these recounts.
