Nov. 3, 2009 Results posted, counting to continue tomorrow
Results for about 250,000 mail ballots were posted moments ago to the Elections’ Web site. The counted ballots represent about one quarter of the total number mailed to King County voters. Although ballots have been slow to come in, King County Elections is predicting a 56 percent voter turnout.
“While our first all mail general election is not over, it is already a success, in terms of both processing and efficiency,” said Sherril Huff, King County Elections Director, who noted that the recently upgraded tabulations equipment allows election to process ballots much faster than before. “Voting by mail is easier and more convenient for voters and our new technology allows us to post greater numbers in our Election night results.”
King County received many reports from voters who were pleased with the shift to voting by mail. The majority of county voters had already moved to voting by mail, with over 70 percent choosing to vote by mail rather than polling places. All ballots must be postmarked on or before Nov. 3 or dropped off at ballot boxes by 8 p.m. at any of the 19 ballot boxes available around the county. Three accessible voting locations were also available.
The next ballot results will be announced on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., and each weekday throughout the week until all ballots have been processed and counted.
King County Elections will certify the vote on Nov. 24. More information can be found at www.kingcounty.gov/elections.
