Jan. 22, 2009 Have you tried tracking your mail ballot online?
Last week King County mailed a record-breaking total of more than 1.1 million ballots to all registered voters for the county’s first all-mail election on February 3. Also new for this election, the division has launched an application that allows voters to track their ballot’s progress online, verifying its location at three different points.
“This is an incredible accomplishment for the Elections office,” said King County Elections Director Sherril Huff. “In addition to being an educational tool, the mail ballot tracker gives voters the ability to be sure that we have received and processed their ballot, increasing confidence in the vote by mail system.”
To use the online mail ballot tracker, voters can enter their first and last name and birthday at http://info.kingcounty.gov/elections/mailballottracking.aspx. The Web site pulls information from several steps in the tabulation process and allows voters to track their ballot at three locations to confirm the following:
Track point #1: Your ballot packet was assembled and delivered to the U.S.P.S. by Elections.
Track point #2: King County received your returned ballot packet.
Track point #3: Your signature was verified and you will be credited with voting.
An online mail ballot tracking system is a requirement of ordinance 15523, allowing the county to conduct all elections by mail. For more information on features of all-mail voting in King County or the February 3 special election, visit www.kingcounty.gov/elections.
