King County Elections announces hiring of Superintendent

After a long search, King County Elections is pleased to announce that Evelyn Arnold has been selected as the new Superintendent of Elections.

Arnold, a native of Washington, is currently the Auditor for Chelan County, an elected office that she has held since 1990. She previously served as a staff accountant for the Chelan County Auditor’s office as well as a business manager for several private businesses in Cashmere, Washington. Arnold is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Government Financial Manager who was honored as County Auditor of the Year in 2004 by the Washington Secretary of State. Ms. Arnold, a member and former president of the Washington Association of County Auditors, served as their representative on the King County Election Oversight Committee.

According to Sherril Huff, Director of King County Elections, “We are very pleased that Evelyn has agreed to join our team. She brings an outstanding array of skills and a proven track record to the position as well as knowledge of Washington State election law. She is well known and respected by her peers and King County voters will be well served by her depth of experience.”

The Superintendent of Elections, a position that is subject to Council confirmation, is responsible for over-all executive level management, oversight and planning for the conduct of local, state and federal elections in King County. This position supervises the functions of voter registration, mail ballot processing and delivery, and election operations.

Pending confirmation, Ms. Arnold will begin her new position in late September.

King County Elections serves more that 1 million registered voters in the nation’s 14th largest county.
