Story

Puget Sound Energy reached a settlement agreement with the Sierra Club today establishing a firm timeline for shutting down two older coal-fired plants in Montana that provide electricity to customers in King County. King County Executive Dow Constantine issued the following statement in support of that action.

"This agreement creates a clear timeline for closure of the two oldest coal-fired plants in Montana that supply electricity to customers in King County. I applaud Puget Sound Energy and the Sierra Club for reaching an agreement that puts us on a path to a cleaner energy future. As coal is phased out of our energy supply, I look forward to continued partnership with PSE and the King County Cities Climate Collaboration to improve energy conservation and pursue clean, renewable energy.”

The King County Cities Climate Collaboration (K4C) is a voluntary but formal alliance of 13 cities and King County working together on climate actions. K4C partners represent 1.5 million residents or three-quarters of the population of King County.
