Regional Animal Services achieves record pet-save rate in 2015, one of the highest rates in the nation
Now in its fifth year of operation, Regional Animal Services of King County is saving the lives of nearly nine out of every ten animals that come into care - exceeding the goal set by Executive Constantine as part of his 2010 animal care and control reform plan.

Executive triples number of homeless shelter beds inside two King County buildings in downtown Seattle
King County will open a new 50-bed shelter for homeless men, including for the first time those with pets, and expand the existing shelter in the King County Administration Building from 50 to 100 beds – effectively tripling the number of beds the County provides to homeless men in downtown Seattle.

King County is now one of about a dozen governments across the country to offer up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave. Executive Constantine proposed the program so that employees have more opportunity to connect with their newborn children and to help recruit and retain talented workers.

Executive Constantine appointed 35 community members to the advisory board that will help implement his voter-approved Best Starts for Kids initiative. The board includes content experts, researchers, educators, community leaders and nonprofit organizations from across King County.

Council approves Executive's historic proposal to invest $28 million in 100 regional cultural facilities
King County Executive Dow Constantine signed legislation to enact "Building for Culture," the largest one-time investment King County has made to build new cultural facilities, as well as expand, preserve, and improve existing ones. More than 100 arts and cultural organizations will share $28 million in capital improvement grant funds financed by bonds backed by a portion of the County's hotel/motel tax revenues.

Elected leaders representing major urban counties across the United States are signing a declaration written by Executive Constantine that welcomes Syrian refugees. The declaration closes with a call to action: “This is, above all else, a humanitarian crisis—one to which we as metropolitan regions are willing and able to respond."

Justice Department promotes King County’s campaign to reduce gun violence
The U.S. Department of Justice is paying for billboards and Sound Transit bus ads to promote King County’s safe firearm storage campaign to prevent guns from being used to commit crimes. The campaign is part of Executive Constantine’s prevention-oriented approach to reducing gun violence in the region.
