Month-long project will allow for reconstruction of flood-damaged section of road

West Snoqualmie Valley Road Northeast between Northeast 100th Street and Novelty Hill Road will close for approximately one month beginning at 6 a.m. Monday July 8th so crews can repair a severely damaged section of the roadway.

A 425-foot section of the road was damaged when the Snoqualmie River overflowed its banks during an April, 2011 flood. Since that time, the northbound lane of the rural roadway has been closed allowing for just one lane of traffic where the damage occurred.

Following the 2011 flood, the King County Road Services Division conducted a geotechnical review and discovered severe damage had occurred to the roadbed resulting in sinking and cracking. The division then applied for and received a $1.1 million grant from the Federal Highway Administration to make repairs.

During the construction period, the roadway will be reconstructed and a section of the adjacent slope will be rebuilt. The work is scheduled to be completed by the second week of August.

During the construction period, motorists should use Northeast 80th Stre et, Carnation Farm Road, SR 203, Northeast 124th Street and Novelty Hill Road as a detour. Local access will be maintained on either side of the worksite for residents and businesses.

Note: From July 8-12, crews also plan to completely close a portion of Preston-Fall City Road north of Interstate 90 between Preston and Fall City. The road will be closed to through-traffic and some drivers face a potential 12-mile detour that could take up to 20 minutes.
