Public meeting May 14 to share construction information

A public meeting is planned May 14 to discuss plans by King County Road Services to replace a collapsing aging culvert beneath Lake Alice Road Southeast this summer.

Public meeting
6 –7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14
Fall City Elementary School Library, 33314 SE 42nd St., Fall City

The county plans to close the road for eight to 10 weeks in a period between July 1 and the end of September (Editor's note: this proposed schedule will likely be revised. The most current schedule and updates will be posted at the project link below) while a contractor removes and replaces the aging 48-inch-diameter culvert, which lies 35 feet beneath the road at 339th Avenue Southeast.

The county will install a 16-foot-wide box culvert that can handle stronger stream flows and better protect the roadway from damage. The new culvert’s floor will be designed to mimic a stream bed and allow fish passage.

A detour is planned via Southeast Sorenson Street through Snoqualmie Ridge to Snoqualmie Parkway. This detour route was used in fall 2012 during emergency repairs to the roadway.
