Report Type Examples

The following are examples of when you should call the Sheriff’s Office to file your report, and when you may file your report online.

If suspect information exists, you must call (206) 296-3311 to file your report.

NOTE: by selecting your report type you are acknowledging you understand that filing a false police report is a crime.

For the following situations, you must call in for your report (these are classified as Burglary):

  • Theft of property from a house or building by an unknown or unauthorized person.
  • Theft of property taken from a vehicle parked inside a garage.
  • Theft of a bicycle or other property from inside a garage.
  • Theft of property from a hotel room by an unknown person.
  • Theft of property from a partially constructed house, where the windows and doors are installed.

For the following situations, you may file an online report if the suspect is unknown:

  • Theft of property taken from a vehicle parked in a public access area (not in a garage, for example) is a Theft From Vehicle, and you may file this report online.
  • Theft of property from a house by a guest or someone invited in (laborer, salesperson, etc.) is a Theft from Building and you may file this report online.
  • Theft of a bike or other property from your yard or other outdoor area is a Theft of Miscellaneous and you may file this report online.
  • Theft of a purse from a shopping cart in a parking lot is a Theft of Miscellaneous and you may file this report online.
  • Theft of property from a fenced area used for business or residential purposes is a Theft of Miscellaneous. You may file this report online.
  • Theft of property from a hotel room by an authorized occupant (maid, hotel guest, etc.) is a Theft from Building. You may file this report online.
  • Theft of property from a partially constructed house, where the windows and doors are not installed (Theft of Miscellaneous). You may file this report online.
