Charges Filed in Sammamish Murder: Charges were filed this morning against two defendants who are accused in the brutal bludgeoning death of a man in Sammamish earlier this week. Kevin D. Patterson, 20, and Christopher Shade, 18, are each charged with Murder in the First Degree, Robbery in the First Degree and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. The defendants are accused of bludgeoning Richard Bergesen to death with shovels. The defendants then allegedly stole the victim’s credit cards and vehicle and fled to Canada. They were arrested in Abbotsford B.C. on Wednesday where they remain in custody. Bail on the murder charges is set at $2 million. The King County Prosecutors Office is working with the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs to have the defendants returned to the U.S. to face charges.
