Competency Evaluation Ordered for Seattle Man Charged in Deaths of Mother, Stepfather: A judge this morning ordered a competency evaluation for a Seattle man who is accused in the deaths of his mother and stepfather on July 19 in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood. The mental evaluation will take place at Western State Hospital. The defendant, Richard Leo Parenteau, Jr, 45, is charged with two counts of Murder in the First Degree for the alleged bludgeoning deaths of Linda Parenteau and David Wells. A competency hearing is currently scheduled for August 25 when a judge could decide whether the defendant is competent to stand trial. The hearing is at 9 a.m. in courtroom 1201 of the King County Courthouse. The defendant’s bail is set at $5 million.
