Adult Justice Programs and Initiatives

The King County Office of the Executive and the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office are developing a project to divert certain first-time felony referrals from the adult judicial system and into community based supports.

Below is a recording from an information session held with community service organizations describing a high level outline of the program and inviting those interested in participating in a deeper feedback process.

The Community Center for Alternative Programs (CCAP, formerly Day Reporting) holds offenders accountable to a weekly itinerary directed at involving the offender in a continuum of structured programs. The goal of CCAP is to assist offenders in changing those behaviors that have contributed to their being charged with a crime. CCAP provides on-site services as well as referrals to community-based services. Random drug tests are conducted to monitor for illegal drug use and consumption of alcohol. Offenders participating in CCAP receive an individual needs assessment and are scheduled for a variety of programs.

In 2015, a cross system of county leaders, courts, agencies and community members formed a Recidivism Reduction and Reentry Policy Work Team to provide King County with technical assistance, as well as program and policy advice and support, in the development of a robust continuum of practices and interventions designed to reduce criminal justice involvement among our community members.
