How King County’s new sewer pipeline will be installed in Southeast Bellevue

The current 12-inch sewer force main pipe will be replaced with a 24-inch pipe to increase capacity for the area’s growing population. Three construction methods will be used to install the new force main pipe:

  1. Open cut: a method of installing underground pipes that requires digging an open trench.
  2. Trenchless crossing: a type of subsurface construction work that requires few trenches and avoids sensitive environmental areas.
  3. Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD): a method that will be used to avoid surface impacts in critical areas, from Sunset Pump Station near Vasa Park to 166th Avenue S.E. Learn more about HDD.

View the map below to see where the County anticipates these methods will be used.
