Story

Traffic revisions will begin on Monday, Aug. 12, near the intersection of 17th Street Southeast and A Street Southeast in Auburn to enable King County construction contractors to install a new sewer pipeline.

Work is scheduled for weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. and expected to last through Aug. 26.

During this time, 17th Street Southeast will be closed except for local access, with detours via F Street Southeast, 12th Street Southeast, and 21st Street Southeast.

Traffic on A Street Southeast will be reduced to one lane in either direction between 15th Street Southeast and 21st Street Southeast.

Access to residences and businesses within the project area will be maintained during construction, but people should allow extra time for commuting and follow signage instructions. Flaggers and cones will guide traffic during work hours.

The construction is part of King County’s Stuck River Trunk project to increase wastewater system capacity and accommodate population growth in the area. The project entails installing a 4,000-foot-long, 27-inch-diameter sewer pipeline in a trench along 17th Street Southeast in Auburn between K Street Southeast and C Street Southwest. Some of the pipeline has been installed west of A Street Southeast using trenchless and open trench construction. Pipe installation along 17th Street Southeast will continue east from the intersection to K Street Southeast via open trench construction.

The new line will relieve capacity constraints in the existing M Street Trunk in east Auburn. Project completion is scheduled for 2014.

Detailed information about the project, including maps, is available on the website.
