Story

By sponsoring the April 24 GoGreen Seattle Conference during Earth Week, King County aims to empower regional business and government leaders with strategies, tools and connections to help them green their organizations with profitability in mind.

Upwards of 500 decision-makers from both the public and private sectors looking to become more educated and inspired to take their environmental efforts to a new level will converge at The Conference Center, Eighth Avenue and Pike Street in Seattle.

The conference has typically had a business emphasis, but has expanded this year to include efforts by municipal and regional governments to reduce their impact on the environment. The change is due in part to King County’s sponsorship.

The conference will feature dozens of high profile business and government speakers with distinguished environmental credentials from the Puget Sound region and beyond, including a keynote by King County Executive Dow Constantine.

Department of Natural Resources and Parks Director Christie True said King County’s interest in sponsoring the conference stems from the King County Strategic Plan, which has environmental sustainability and economic growth as foundational goals. True is a conference moderator.

“We are taking actions to become more sustainable in our day-to-day operations, and in our planning for the future. And we are seeing results,” True said. “King County’s actions have reduced our environmental footprint, saved taxpayers money and encouraged business development and growth. We are eager to share our successes with conference participants, and we’re excited to partner with GoGreen.”
