Story

Crews will remove debris and clean up  40-acre site that is home to Judd Creek headwaters

Join King County Parks and the Friends of Island Center Forest May 12 for a habitat restoration and clean-up event on King County’s recently acquired 40-acre parcel that links the forest with the town.

The County’s acquisition of the land in late 2011 provides an exciting opportunity to connect the town center with Island Center Forest – Vashon’s largest public open space. The parcel is also home to the headwaters of Judd Creek, Vashon’s largest creek and an important salmon-bearing stream.

The work party is set for 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help remove debris and clean up the property. Participants are asked to dress for the day’s weather, and rubber boots and gloves are highly recommended.

Volunteers should park along Southwest 178th Street and 103rd Avenue Southwest. Please do not park in the Roseballen neighborhood. The clean-up crew will assemble at the barricades just south of 178th then head into the property and begin working. Refreshments will be provided.

More information on this volunteer event is available by calling Laurie Clinton, 206-296-4452.
