Corrections Officer Lateral Candidates
Minimum Qualifications for Corrections Officers:

Must be 21 years of age at the time of hire;

Must have a High school diploma or GED;

Must pass written exam;

Must pass physical ability test; and

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License by time of employment; and
Added Requirements for Lateral Candidates:
- Must be a current Corrections Officer who has passed an accredited State Corrections Academy; successfully completed current agency’s probationary period as a Corrections Officer and no break in service.
Benefits of Lateral Application:
- There will be salary consideration for placement at a step within the Corrections Officer salary range that is closer to current salary than Step One. Salaries must remain within the stated Corrections Officer salary range.
- Attendance at some or all of the Corrections Academy may be waived.
Required Documentation for Lateral Candidates:

Verification of current salary (hourly base pay)

Verification of completion of an accredited Corrections Academy

Verification of continuous work as a Corrections Officer
For out-of-state candidates only – must provide curriculum of Academy (this includes course outline with topics and hours of instruction and information on testing process).
