2009 Superior Court Furloughs

The Washington State Constitution, Article IV, Section 6, provides that the Superior Court “shall always be open, except on non judicial days” (weekends and recognized holidays).  As such, while the court staff will be rquired to schedule four (4) furlough days in 2009, the days will be scheduled in such a way so as to ensure that the court will be open for all court business throughout 2009, as constitutionally required.

While the court will be open each day, including each of the ten (10) County Executive declared furlough days, the court will, on three of the County Executive declared furlough days (January 2, November 25, and December 24), be moving the SRA, sentencing, and omnibus calendars to a different court day.  At Juvenile Court, on those three days, the court will not be conducting juvenile offender proceedings in Courtrooms 2, 3, and 4.

On all other County Executive declared furlough days, all calendars and all court proceedings will proceed as usual.  Those dates are:

  • February 13
  • April 10
  • May 22
  • June 19
  • July 6
  • September 4
  • October 12

All proceedings involving the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Office of Public Defense, private counsel, and parties to litigation will proceed as usual on these dates.  Please make note of this.
