Superior Court Flood Planning

Watch a short informational video (posted on YouTube) describing the potential for flooding in the Green River Valley.

How could a Green River flood impact Superior Court?

The Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) is located in the Green River Valley in Kent.  Superior Court maintains 21 courtrooms in that facility and handles between 35 and 40 percent of its caseload there.  Flooding in the valley could impact and force closure of the MRJC, disrupting the continuity of operations and provision of essential services at that site.

What is the court doing to prepare for potential flooding?

The court is working with other county agencies and organizations, other courts, and various local institutions to develop a relocation plan, should MRJC evacuation take place.  The plan is designed to enable the court to continue providing its vital services at alternate locations, even if flooding at the MRJC should occur.  The plan also includes a communications component to ensure that jurors, attorneys, and members of the public are kept informed as evacuation and redeployment take place.
