The links below provide the forms and instructions you will need to file your family law action. Right now, the website only provides information on “Ending the Marriage” (divorce, legal separation). But soon, there will be additional links for many other family law issues. In the meantime, if you have a family law problem that is not listed below please click here to be taken to the NW Justice Project. Their website provides detailed instructions and information on many family law issues. However, if you follow the NW Justice Project instructions, you will still need to fill out a King County Superior Court form. The following information will help you learn how to get a divorce or legal separation in Washington State.
Ending the Marriage: In Washington State there are two ways to lend your marriage: Dissolution of marriage, which is a divorce. There is also a process called Legal separation, which is similar to a dissolution. The court will enter orders for all the same issues as it would in a dissolution, including s parenting plan, child support, and property/debt division. There are some differences, however. Most people choose a legal separation as opposed to a dissolution for religious reasons. With a decree of legal separation, your marriage is not dissolved, so neither party can legally remarry unless the decree is first converted to a decree of dissolution.
