East Division
 David A. Steiner has been a King County District Court Judge since 1996. He is currently assigned to the East Division criminal court in Redmond, Washington. Judge Steiner is the current chair of the District and Municipal Court Judges’ Association Rules and Procedures Committee and serves on the King County District Court Probation Committee. Judge Steiner currently serves as the Presiding Judge of the East Division which consists of the Redmond, Issaquah and Bellevue Courthouses.Judge Steiner served as the Assistant Presiding Judge and then as the Presiding Judge of the King County District Court (1998-2001), and is a past board member of the District and Municipal Court Judges’ Association (2001-2003). As the Presiding Judge of the King County District Court, Judge Steiner worked to establish several innovative programs, including the King County District Court Domestic Violence Courts in 1999, and the King County Work Crew Program in 2000. In 2001 Judge Steiner co-chaired a committee whose recommendations led to the creation of King County’s day reporting program (CCAP). From 2002 to 2004 Judge Steiner presided over domestic violence cases in the East Division Domestic Violence Court. Since 2002 Judge Steiner has served as a facilitator on the topic of domestic violence at National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges judicial training conferences held throughout the United States. He has taught Small Claims (2000-2003) and Criminal Procedure (2006-2008) at the Washington State Judicial College, where he will also co-teach Evidence in 2010 with Judge Catherine Shaffer. He has also spoken at many attorney legal education programs on various topics, including evidence and domestic violence. Judge Steiner volunteers for the King County Kid’s Court program and for the Lake Washington School District, International Community School Mock Trial Team. Judge Steiner is married and has two children. When he is not attending his children’s sporting events he enjoys mountain climbing, skiing and road biking. He is a graduate of the University of Washington and received his J.D. from the University of Puget Sound School of Law in 1984.
