South Division, Burien Courthouse is located in the city of Burien at 601 S.W. 149th Street, and shares a facility with Precinct Four of the King County Sheriffs Department.
This division was established in late 1980's by the merger of the Airport, Roxbury and Vashon courts, and in 2003 merged with the Renton court. The city of Burien contracts with the division for full court services, and hearings continue to be held on Vashon Island one Friday each month. The Vashon Facility is located at 19021 Vashon Highway SW. To get there, catch the ferry at the Fauntleroy Ferry dock in West Seattle. Take the Vashon Highway for approximately 13 miles. One mile from the center of town (four way stop) is the courthouse located on the right hand side of the street. A 7 foot bronze sculpture is in the yard. Park to the left and the courthouse is in front. If you come to a 2nd four way stop, you have gone too far.
The court processes over 27,000 cases each year including criminal and traffic misdemeanors, traffic infractions, civil, small claims, domestic violence orders , name changes, and in 1998 started offering passport services to its local citizens. Agencies that file with this court include the King County Sheriff, Washington State Patrol, Port of Seattle Police, Burien Police, and the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife among others.
