Update: More than 140 County residents joined us at the Seattle Aquarium on a sunny Monday evening to discuss creating a "green" economy. The July 14 Town Hall Meeting was an opportunity for local leaders from the labor, business, education, civil rights, and environmental communities to join public discussion groups in talking about what will be needed to create a sustainable, green economy and stimulate job growth in the new "green-collar" jobs sector. Thanks to everyone who joined us. Watch the full KCTV broadcast.
Please join the King County Council at the Seattle Aquarium for a special Town Hall Meeting on creating "green-collar" jobs and building a productive, environmentally sustainable economy:
Monday, July 14, 2008 6:30 pm - Public Reception 7:00 to 8:30 pm - Program
Seattle Aquarium 1483 Alaskan Way, Pier 59 Seattle, WA 98101
(Directions)
Creating an environmentally sustainable society - while challenging - will create enormous new opportunities in manufacturing, construction, research, and other fields. A green economy will spur new investment, create living-wage jobs, and help make our communities more healthy.
Please join us as we begin the discussion on creating a green economy in our community. We'll have a panel discussion with leaders from the labor, education, civil rights, and environmental communities. There will be a briefing on proposed legislation and you will have an opportunity to share your ideas and provide public testimony. Seattle is a world leader in both innovative technology and environmental stewardship - and we are prepared to embrace this great challenge and opportunity.
We hope to see you there!
More about Town Halls
The County Council is a regional government committed to engaging King County residents in their local communities. Throughout the year, the Council holds local Town Hall Meetings on issues of public importance. Community members have the opportunity to meet Councilmembers, be briefed by local and regional experts, and provide public testimony.
Each Town Hall is a special meeting of the Council's Committee of the Whole (COW), the only standing committee on which all nine members serve. COW considers legislation and policy issues of interest to the entire council.
Since 2007, more than 2,800 people have met with Councilmembers at Town Halls held in Federal Way, Shoreline, Burien, Kent, West Seattle, Renton, Redmond, on the Seattle Waterfront, Maple Valley, Sammamish and Seattle's Central Area.
