Roads & Transit Plan the focus of Town Hall Meeting

The draft Roads & Transit Plan was the focus of the March 2007 King County Council Town Hall Meeting. The plan is a comprehensive set of investments in freeways, light-rail and commuter-rail, HOV lanes, park-and-ride lots, and express and local bus service that together would constitute the single largest investment ever made to improve our regional transportation system.

This Council Town Hall Meeting is part of the Roads & Transit Plan's public review process. The Council must decide later in 2007 whether to place the final plan on the November ballot.

The meeting was held at Spirit of Washington Event Center, 233 Burnett Ave S, Renton, WA 98055, on Monday, March 12. The public was invited to meet face-to-face with King County Councilmembers at an informal reception starting at 6:00 p.m. The program ran from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The program featured key representatives from regional transportation agencies, including:

  • Regional Transportation Investment District: Kjris Lund, Executive Director
  • Sound Transit: Ric Ilgenfritz, Chief Communications Officer
  • Metro Transit: Kevin Desmond, General Manager

The County Council is a regional government committed to engaging King County residents in their local communities. Throughout the year, the Council holds local Town Hall Meetings on issues of public importance. Community members have the opportunity to meet Councilmembers, be briefed by local and regional experts, and provide public testimony.

Each Town Hall is a special meeting of the Council’s Committee-of-the-Whole (COW), the only standing committee on which all nine members serve. COW considers legislation and policy issues of interest to the entire council.

Recent town hall meetings have been held in West Seattle, Carnation, Auburn, Shoreline, Renton, Seattle, Bellevue, and Enumclaw.
