Upthegrove supports increased bus service between Renton and Kent

Summary

“Renton and Kent residents need access to dependable bus service”

Story

The Metropolitan King County Council unanimously approved an additional 14,300 hours of Metro Transit service on Route 169 between Renton and Kent, increasing service from every 30-minutes to every 15-minutes during the morning and evening commute. The new investments in Route 169 equate to more than a twenty-five percent increase in annual service hours on that route alone.

“Renton and Kent residents need access to dependable bus service,” said Councilmember Dave Upthegrove, whose district includes parts of Renton and Kent. “Metro’s proposed service changes are a good step in the right direction towards more frequent and reliable service.”

The new investment in Route 169 is a part of a package of service changes from King County Metro that would add service hours to overcrowded routes and increase nightly service on certain bus routes. The plan specifically calls for over an additional 27,000 hours of investment to routes that service parts of South King County.

The proposed changes are set to take effect in September of 2017.
