Story

The 2015 Legislative Session and the future of light rail in south King County was the focus of today’s “Good Eggs” Breakfast meeting. Guests heard from state Senator Joe Fain and Mike Harbour, Deputy Chief Executive Officer/Acting Director of Sound Transit.

Senator Fain provided an update on the special legislative session, what was accomplished during the regular session, and what items are now being considered in the special session.

Mike Harbour discussed Sound Transit’s expansion of light rail in south King County. He highlighted past accomplishments, current projects and future expansion plans in south King County with ST3. Part of the ST3 package would include the Federal Way Link Extension projected to be completed in 2026.

Sound Transit is seeking revenue authority from the state legislature and are currently conducting system planning for a potential ballot measure in 2016.

“Looking toward the future, transportation needs in South King County is vital to our region’s economic development to recruit job-producing businesses to our communities, and also provide commuters a reliable mode of transportation to and from work,” said Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer, the host of the Good Eggs Breakfast. “Providing information on many issues facing South King County in a timely manner is key to creating a strong foundation to build on.”
