King County Executive Dow Constantine was joined today by Metropolitan King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn and King County Sheriff John Urquhart in touring the Hicks-Raburn Sheriff’s Office Precinct in Maple Valley that was closed in 2012 as the County battled the effects of the Great Recession. Constantine has proposed reopening the precinct in his 2014 budget in an effort to improve police service to southeast King County and to consolidate existing Sheriff’s Office resources.

“I proposed re-opening the precinct to provide better police service to the people of southeast King County,” said Constantine. “Working with the Sheriff and the community, we are striving to get the most public safety for the limited dollars available."

“This has been a collaborative effort with a single goal: to better serve and protect the residents of Unincorporated King County,” Said Dunn. “I would like to thank the Executive and the Sheriff for their leadership in proposing the re-opening of the Hicks-Raburn Precinct and I will work hard to make sure it is included in the 2014 budget.”

The precinct, which served the southeastern portion of King County, was closed two years ago. Councilmember Dunn and Sheriff Urquhart have combined efforts to reopen the precinct.

“The Hicks-Raburn Precinct was built as a police station with the tools our deputies need for operational support,” said Sheriff Urquhart. “I look forward to the day in the near future when our deputies and the community can use this vital community resource again.”

The Metropolitan King County Council is currently reviewing the Executive Proposed Budget. The Council is expected to act on the County’s 2014 Budget next month.
