Bellevue Company honored with top Community Service Award

Summary

Hague praises GLY Construction for their stellar civic engagement

Story

On March 16, Bellevue-based GLY Construction was presented the “Corporations for Communities” award by Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed. The award honors exceptional state businesses that make a concerted effort to give back to their local communities.

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Jane Hague attended the ceremony. “The fact that these are such tough economic times makes GLY’s contribution all the more extraordinary,” said Hague. “It’s heartwarming to see a local Eastside business so engaged in the community. GLY is a model for other companies nationwide.”

Reed presented the State Medallion Award to GLY Construction President and CEO Jim Karambelas. GLY contributes regularly to a number of public service organizations, including the YMCA and Habitat for Humanity. Founded in 1978, GLY has grown to become one of the largest locally owned general contractors in the Seattle area.

The award was created in 2009 as a recognition program with the Secretary of State’s Corporation and Charities Division. The Medallion recognizes voter education efforts, civic engagement, government services, and a commitment to giving back to the community.
