District 7 hosts Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn

Update on public schools with south King County leaders

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer’s monthly breakfast meeting, “Good Eggs,” attended by civic and local business leaders, welcomed State Superintendant Randy Dorn in Federal Way.

Superintendent Dorn began the luncheon by talking about the difficult cuts that had to be made by all public school employees before explaining new reforms on educational assessment, integration of technology, governance, and the advantages of embracing diverse languages. He closed by announcing that, “For the first time, the state will extend the graduation rate to over 80 percent.”

The superintendant supports the state’s 295 school districts as well as administering basic education programs and reforms to more than one million students. In addition to distributing state and federal funding to districts he also oversees learning assessment systems.

“We are fortunate to have Randy here today to explain the state’s budget effects as well as the improvements the public schools are making during these challenging times,” said  von Reichbauer.
