RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, the City of SeaTac, located in South King
County, Washington, is one of the most vibrant, innovative and culturally
rich communities within the region; and
WHEREAS, the City of SeaTac was incorporated on February
28th, 1990; and
WHEREAS, in the intervening 20 years, the City has
established a city hall, built the SeaTac community Center with a world-class
senior program, developed the 165-acre North SeaTac Park, and made significant
investments in fire, police, and human services; and
WHEREAS, with more than 25,000 residents, the City
of SeaTac is a culturally diverse community representing more than 80
nationalities and 70 different languages; and
WHEREAS, the City of SeaTac is known as the portal
to the Puget Sound and is home to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport,
the 18th busiest airport in the United States, that handles more than
30 million passengers a year; and
WHEREAS, on December 19, 2009, the City welcomed the
newest Sound Transit Link light rail staition, the SeaTac/Airport station,
which strengthens the connection between the airport and the surrounding
community; and
WHEREAS, the City of SeaTac continues to be a fast-paced,
growing community that is economically strong, environmentally sensitive,
and people-oriented;
NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Metropolitan King County
Council, recognize the
CITY OF SEATAC
on the occasion of a celebration this evening to mark
the 20th anniversary of the city’s incorporation.
