King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer was joined by King County Executive Ron Sims, as he hosted a roundtable discussion with nonprofit leaders in the Auburn area regarding the importance of nonprofits in the community. Of particular importance was funding these groups so they can ensure the same level of community service they have been providing for years.

“The message from our nonprofit leaders was clear,” said von Reichbauer. “In this rough economy we must make sure our community’s service groups don’t bear the brunt of the economic blow – government can guarantee this by keeping their funding at its existing level.”

“Right now our families, friends and neighbors are experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime economic slump and turn to these service groups to help supplement their needs,” continued von Reichbauer. “County government must not let our communities down, and one way to do that is to continue funding these groups.”

In attendance at the meeting were representatives from across the nonprofit community including: mental and social services, services for seniors and at-risk youth, as well as the community arts and education. Members of the roundtable discussed how their group is being adversely affected by the economy’s recession, and ways to collaborate with one another.
