King County officials receive Inauguration Day flag

Congressman Reichert presents King County Council and Executive with symbolic gift

In honor of President Barack Obama’s inauguration and the vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Congressman David Reichert recently presented King County Councilmembers and County Executive Ron Sims with a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol Building on Inauguration Day. Reichert requested that the flag be flown so he could then present it to the elected leaders of the county named for Dr. King in remembrance of the historic Inauguration Day.

“President Obama’s inauguration brings change to our country from one Washington to the other,” said Councilmember Bob Ferguson, who represents District One, which covers North Seattle, Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Bothell, Kenmore and parts of Woodinville. “Our county was renamed in honor of Dr. King, and Congressman Reichert recognized the significance of this flag to our residents as a symbol of President Obama’s place in history and the fulfillment of Dr. King’s dream.”

The flag was presented during the Council’s February 18 meeting of the Committee of the Whole. The Committee of the Whole, which Ferguson chairs, is the only Council committee on which all nine Council members serve.

Reichert represents Washington’s Eighth Congressional District, a majority of which is within the boundaries of King County.
