Sept. 11, 2008 Community leaders convene to elevate priorities of south King County With a projected $90 million budget shortfall, reminding King County Executive Ron Sims of the needs and challenges facing south King County is perhaps more important than ever. With this in mind King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer yesterday convened a roundtable discussion with south King County community leaders and Executive Sims, and then led Sims on a tour of some of the region’s most popular destinations.
“Today’s roundtable discussion was really about building bridges in South King County,” said Councilmember von Reichbauer. “The meeting was designed to open up the dialogue between King County and the public, private and nonprofit sectors within Federal Way. A better understanding of each other’s goals and challenges will create more opportunities for collaboration and success throughout our community.”
Partaking in the roundtable discussion with Councilmember von Reichbauer and Executive Sims were representatives from the city of Federal Way, the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce, Highline Community College, The Commons Mall, the Multi-Service Center, FUSION, Federal Way’s Diversity Commission, the Federal Way School Board, and the Federal Way Symphony. The conversation covered issues ranging from economic development, education, transportation and transit, to how county government can better work with local city governments in creating partnerships and efficiencies.
After the roundtable discussion, von Reichbauer led Sims to stops at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, West Hylebos Wetlands Park, and the Federal Way Senior Center. von Reichbauer has also stated his intentions to lead a similar roundtable discussion and tour with Executive Sims throughout the greater Auburn area. |
