Ferguson recognized as Human Services “Champion” at Family Center Opening

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson was recognized as a “Champion of the Center for Human Services” at the May 14 grand opening of the agency’s new Northshore Family Center in Bothell.

“I am excited to help the new Northshore Family Center open this beautiful new facility,” said Ferguson, whose leadership helped turn the dream of a family support center for the Northshore community into reality when he secured $150,000 in King County capital funding.

Beratta Gomillion, Executive Director of CHS, said that the Northshore Family Center would not have made it off the drawing board without the leadership of Ferguson and three other “Champions.”

The other three honorees were: the Itner Trust, for providing the down payment for the building; Home Depot, for preparing the deck, fence and landscaping at no cost; and Linda Cufley, for the initial concept of the center and for bringing together community stakeholders to turn that concept into reality.

The Northshore Family Center provides school-readiness, family-support, childcare, youth leadership activities, adult learning and English Language instruction as well as early learning in a comfortable, community center atmosphere and with the assistance of a multi-lingual staff. The Center is particularly focused on reaching out to low-income and immigrant communities while offering services to all families in North King County.

Bothell Mayor Mark Lamb and Deputy Mayor Sandy Guinn were on hand for the event, as were city councilmembers from various North King County cities and representatives of the YMCA and the Northshore School District as well as several individual supporters and client families.

The new home of the Northshore Family Center is 18414 103rd Avenue Northeast in Bothell. The Center is open from Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday evening and weekend events occurred as scheduled.
