Town Meeting Draws a Large Crowd in North Seattle

On Wednesday, March 5, King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson and his guest Seattle City Councilmember Tim Burgess held a town meeting at Olympic View Elementary School in the Maple Leaf neighborhood of North Seattle. The councilmembers answered questions posed by the audience of over 120 people. Issues ranged from public safety and transportation, to public campaign financing and flood control.

“It is important to have town meetings that incorporate both city and county officials. Constituents are able to have their questions addressed from the city and county perspectives,” said Councilmember Ferguson. “I also think the open topic format works well. People are able to listen to the concerns of their neighbors that they may not have been aware of.”

Pleased with this opportunity to engage his constituents, Councilmember Burgess stated that “turnout was great and people's passions for their city were obvious.”

Ferguson will hold his next town meeting with Lake Forest Park Mayor Dave Hutchinson on April 2 at 7 p.m., at the Third Place Commons in the Lake Forest Park Towne Centre.
