June 23, 2008 West Hill Park to join city of BothellKing County Council approves transfer of 7-acre facility to city Bothell’s newest park is actually one of its oldest. West Hill Park today officially became property of the city after the Metropolitan King County Council unanimously approved transfer of the 7-acre property. “I am pleased to see that this park will be transferred into caring hands,” said Councilmember Jane Hague, chair of the Council’s Utilities and Parks Committee that studied the measure. “Ultimately, what matters is that the citizens living near West Hill Park are able to use and enjoy it.” Under an interlocal agreement between King County and Bothell, the city has been maintaining West Hill’s grass fields for 30 years. Today’s ordinance officially transfers the property, created with Forward Thrust funds, to the city within 30 days. The park transfer is consistent with the King County Annexation Initiative and the County’s Parks Business Transition Plan. Both plans encourage the transfer of local, in-city parks and pools to become the responsibility of the local suburban cities in which they lie, so that the County can focus on its 25,000-acre regional parks system, one of the largest in the country.
