June 16, 2008 Ferguson appointed to Washington State Association of Counties Legislative Steering CommitteeMetropolitan King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson has been appointed to the Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC) Legislative Steering Committee.WSAC advocates at the state and national levels for local government needs and critical county services. Its members include elected county commissioners, council members, and executives from Washington’s 39 counties. WSAC encourages state and local government collaboration to provide better service for citizens. The steering committee’s membership is balanced along party lines and between representatives from urban and rural communities. “County governments across the state share the goal of providing the services that citizens need and expect while maintaining fiscal balance,” said Ferguson, who currently chairs the King County Council’s Operating Budget Committee. “I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues to find creative solutions to improve government on both the state and county levels.” Many county services provided in Washington are done on behalf of the state. These include Superior Court, elections, property tax assessment and collection, and health and human services. The state also controls the taxing authority of counties. WSAC policy is that the state, counties, and cities must collaborate to ensure a seamless, cost effective service delivery system for joint constituents. All appointments to the steering committee are for a single year and current WSAC President and Douglas County Commissioner, Mary Hunt, notified Ferguson of his appointment. Ferguson represents District One on the King County Council, which covers North Seattle, Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Bothell, Kenmore, and parts of Woodinville.
