Ferguson delivers van to north Seattle’s “Outdoors for All”
Retired Vanpool van will transport residents with disabilities to recreation programs throughout the community
Outdoors for All now holds the keys to a retired Metro Vanpool van, which was delivered by Metropolitan King County Councilmember
Bob Ferguson. Ferguson had the opportunity to secure the van through the King County Council’s retired Metro Vanpool van donation program. Outdoors for All is located in Magnuson Park.
“This van will help residents with disabilities experience the amazing recreational opportunities that King County has to offer,” said Ferguson, who represents District One on the County Council. “Outdoors for All provides valuable services to the residents of King County, and now even more people will benefit from the good work of this agency.”
“Receiving this van is a major gift for us,” stated Ed Bronsdon, Executive Director of Outdoors for All, a foundation that helps people with physical, developmental, and sensory disabilities enjoy outdoor recreation. “Every year, Outdoors for All serves more than 2000 individuals with disabilities, and their family members and caregivers. The van will enable us to transport participants to and from recreation programs.”
Since 1995, the County Council has donated more than 250 retired vans from Metro Transit’s Vanpool program to local nonprofit organizations to provide transportation for residents who are disabled or on a low-income, young adults, and senior citizens. The program provides mobility for a diverse array of King County residents, supports the positive work of various local organizations, and relieves traffic congestion by reducing the need for single-occupancy vehicles.
